Come and visit us in our Boyar’s camp to have some rest and replenish your energy supply! Near the town two natural reserves can be found Patleyna and Dervisha. The first one, Patleyna, is a botanical reserve in the Danube lowland, the Northern Balkan.
Here can be seen the only habitat of the rare yellow and red tulip. Patleyna has an extraordinary and very beautiful landscape, highlands covered with greenery, thick forests and vast green lawns sprinkled with yellow and red tulips. Here you will find the monastery of St. Panteleymon huddled among the trees of the forest. The famous icon of St. Theodore Stratilat was found in the monastery surroundings.
Another interesting sight nearby is the cave Mecha Dupka (the hole of the bear) which is 76 m long and has not been fully examined yet.
The reserve Dervisha occupies 106 decare of the territory of Preslav region and forms a narrow strip situated paralleled the coasts of Dervishka river. The nearby dam, carrying the name of the reserve, is perfect for fishing. The reserve is famous for its unique natural habitat of the “horse” chestnut that can be found only here in Preslav Balkan. It has been grown since XVI century and today it has been put in the Red Book (a book with species found in Bulgaria that are threatened with extinction).
Another unique plant to be seen here is the swamp snowdrop that grows on an area of 12 ha near Kochovo village and on an area of 19 ha near Osmar village. The territories are announced protected and are the only of their kind in Bulgaria.
